Unfortunately, it was during this visit that he suffered a ruptured appendix, a condition exacerbated by a student's unexpected punch to his stomach, allegedly in an attempt to test Houdini's proclaimed ability to withstand blows to the abdomen. Despite his severe pain, Houdini continued with his performances in Detroit before seeking medical attention. Tragically, he passed away on October 31, 1926, in Detroit's Grace Hospital. The mystery and intrigue that surrounded Houdini in life persisted after his death, contributing to the legend of this iconic magician and escape artist.
