Deluxe Clipboard: This Day in Detroit History Calendar 2024

Sale Price:$20.00 Original Price:$28.00

The Detroit History Club is delighted to announce our “This Day in Detroit History'' calendars for 2024.

Researched, designed, and assembled in Hamtramck, Michigan.

Printed in full color, slightly smaller than 9’’ x 14“, in Southeast, Michigan on partially recycled paper of the highest quality. This deluxe 60-pound paper features a slight texture and beautiful matte finish, which highlights over two dozen historic postcards printed within the calendar.

Each calendar date features information on what happened in the city of Detroit and the surrounding area on that day throughout history. Once per month, a date is called out for an additional full page expounding on the importance of that date's legacy.

Celebrate Detroit history throughout the entire year!

  • October 8th, 1846: Elmwood Cemetery, the state's oldest nondenominational cemetery, opened in Detroit.

  • Norman “Turkey” Stearnes, Baseball Hall of Famer from the Negro Leagues, who played for the Detroit Stars, was born on May 8th, 1901.

  • January 5th, 1988: The final train left Michigan Central Station in Detroit.

  • May 14th, 1936: Built for the World's Fair, but transported back to Detroit at the fair's conclusion, the rebuilt Ford Rotunda opens in Dearborn.

  • August 1st, 1928: The current Detroit Zoo opens, with the acting mayor "bear"ly surviving!

When was the legal drinking age raised to 21 in Michigan, stranding approximately 122,000 people who’d been drinking legally since their 18th birthdays? Who drove the first car on Detroit streets, and when did the famous ride take place? When did public whippings for disorderly Detroiters officially end? Learn all this and more with our “This Day in Detroit History'' calendars.

We are proud to offer two unique printed versions of the calendar: The good ol' fashioned deluxe clipboard model, and a user friendly, spiral top bound calendar:

The good ol' fashioned deluxe clipboard model is ready to hang, featuring a clipboard and a Detroit pencil with a metal bracket pencil holder. The clipboard has a built-in hanging hole and weighs less than 1 lb inclusive of the calendar, clipboard, and a randomly selected Detroit pencil. It will hang comfortably from most command hooks, any well-driven nail or screw, or a magnet capable of bearing the weight of 2 lbs. The clipboard design is intended to mimic the clipboard calendars of the 1940s, with historic postcards appearing to be held in place by the clamp. This limited edition deluxe version is only available direct from The Detroit History Club and Detroit History Tours. Deluxe clipboard calendars can be purchased at our boutique within the Detroit History Club before or following tours or events or in our online store. The clipboards are made in the USA, of 60% recycled materials and tightly secure the calendar pages. Removed pages can be placed behind others for later reference. (In 2024, inserts packs will be available to those who purchased clipboards this year, allowing them to recycle, reuse, and save a bit of cash.)

Based on overwhelming demand, we will also be offering a spiral-bound calendar. It will have the exact same content; printed on the same deluxe paper. The only difference will be that it is spiral-bound at the top with a hole punched at the center. The hanging length is 8.75’’ x 14’’. When purchased through us, the spiral-bound calendar will also includes a randomly selected Detroit pencil with metal pencil bracket.

(Do you know a great shop or location that would like to retail the spiral bound calendar? Shoot us an email at office@detroithistorytours.com)
